A bedroom fire tore through a home in East Rockaway on Saturday, Aug. 23, sending one person to the hospital, Nassau County police announced. Fourteen puppies were found abandoned in a plastic cage in an East Rockaway alleyway, prompting a police rescue, authorities announced on Thursday, Feb. 27.
