Connecticut native Austin Florian made an instant mark at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Competing in the men’s skeleton in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, the Southington native set the Olympic record for start time in both of his first two runs on Thursday, Feb. 12. Skeleton is considered one of the most dangerous events at the Games, as competitors race down a nearly mile-long track headfirst on a sled at speeds of up to 90 mph. Gun Found At CT High School, Student Arrested, Classes Dismissed Early
A Connecticut high school was dismissed early on Thursday, Feb. 5, after a student was found to have a gun inside the building, authorities said. Manchester High School administrators contacted police around 9:30 p.m. after a student reported hearing another mention having a gun magazine while leaving a bathroom, Superintendent Matt Geary said in a message to parents.
